Day 4 - Gingerbread House

I'm still sick today.  We had such a fun day planned, but I had to cancel all 3 activities because of my dang cold.  Aunt Courtney did bring over Zack and Vanesa tonight, though, and they read our verses with us.  Tonight's verses were Matthew 1:22-23 "All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 'The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel which means God with us'".

That Old Testament verse is from Isaiah 7:14, which is what is on our Christmas card this year.  Speaking of Christmas cards, we've been blessed to pray for friends and family every night since Advent started...we pray for the people who send us cards on the day we receive them.  Hunter loves holding the cards while we pray.

I did fight through the cold so we could do our Advent activity, which was to make a gingerbread house.  I have to confess I've never done this before, and I seriously underestimated the difficulty of the gingerbread house-making process.  I should've known since art has never been my forte.

Charlotte was mostly just excited about all of the candy...

Hunter was a great help with all of it, though...

The kit that I bought came with everything you needed to make a gingerbread house, and it also had these 2 gingerbread cookies to decorate...a santa and a Christmas tree.  Charlotte got the tree and immediately shoved it in her mouth...

I took it away to ice it for her, and then I put some candy on top...
In case you're wondering, she's taking the candy off here.  Don't be fooled, that girl loves her some sweets.

Surprisingly, Hunter wanted to decorate his santa and didn't even eat it after he was done.

Still eating the candy...

Hunter used the red icing for his santa, and after he was done icing it, he said, "I got icing on his eyes.  He's blind!"

"Ooooooh mommy.  You caught me eating it again."

This is how the gingerbread house would look if an artist put it together...

Here's ours...

And just in case you were thinking that I am the best mom ever for letting my 3 year old ice our gingerbread house, I have to tell you, I did that.  That icing is soooooo thick.  Hunter did put most of the candy on, though.  I don't know about y'all, but I think he did an excellent job with the candy cane placement.  Where better to place candy canes than the roof?

After I got Charlotte out of her high chair, she noticed a piece of candy on the floor and went straight for it...

She accidetally pushed it under the pantry door, and started saying, "more.  that.  more.  that." and pointing to the pantry door.

I just kept taking pictures, and she kept saying, "more.  that." and pointing...

I finally lured her away with laughter...

Here's our final product...
I don't think this will be a repeat activity for next year.  Maybe we'll go with gingerbread cookies...much lower maintenance.

We made a Gingerbread House one year and it was a nightmare. I don't think I'll ever attempt that again. Yours turned out way better than ours! Every year Zack asks to make another one, but I don't think I can do that ever again!
