Grey's First Haircut

Grey had his first haircut yesterday with my hair stylist, Dana.  He started out great!  Dana said the cape usually upsets the kids, but he didn't mind at all.  He was as happy as can be...

He quickly changed his mood, though, when Dana started to wet his hair...

"I don't like this mommy."

"I really don't."

"Save me!"

"Make it stop!"

It got really stressful after that so I stopped taking pictures.  He was so upset that he didn't even want the food I had...and food always calms this boy down.

He survived, though.  Here's the before and after...

I love his little curls in the back, so I asked Dana to just trim it up and get the hair out of his eyes.  His new haircut looks so cute (especially when he's not crying)!

SEVEN YEARS OLD.

Hunter turned seven today!!  I think this is the first year that I haven't said it feels like just yesterday he was born.  It really does feel like it's been a while.  He made us a family, and we've been a family for so long now, it's hard to remember what life was like before him.  Seven is SO OLD to me.  Hunter has really matured this year.

RISD gave us this Monday off after a week of spring break, so James and I both took off work so we could spend the day together.  Hunter's brother and sister didn't let him (or us!) sleep in much this morning (although, we did sleep over an hour longer than we would've if we had to go to work...so I guess that is sleeping in!).  We got up and immediately opened presents.  Hunter got 2 chapter books  because he's such an awesome reader and really enjoys it...Junie B Jones and Skylanders...

And 2 movies.  Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the one he has been begging for, Indiana Jones!...
He also got an Angry Birds Go game and an additional Angry Birds character to go with it.

I found this fun picture on pinterest of a rainbow for St. Patrick's Day, and since St. Patrick's Day is always extra special at our house because of H's birthday, I put it together.  Of course, mine didn't really look like a rainbow *sigh*...
I forgot to buy pineapple, so my banana messed up the shape, and I think that plate wasn't a good choice to shape my rainbow.  But, the kids loved it anyway!  Of course they ate the chocolate first:)

James, Char, Hunter, and I went to Studio Movie Grill to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman at lunch time, and then when we got home had birthday cake...

Then tonight, we went to Benihana with family.  Grandee and Poppy came by our house first to give Hunter his presents...

The Lego Movie game for his Xbox...

That was definitely his favorite gift!

Katie, Zack, Vanesa, Nanny and Grandad met the rest of us at Benihana for a fun dinner...

So thankful for our family!

Dear Hunter,
For your 7th birthday, here are my top 7 favorite things about you right now...
1.  Your manners - You are like your father in so many ways (which I love), but lately I've been noticing how thankful you are for things, just like your Daddy is.
2.  Your cuddles - Even at 7,you still come over to me at least 1 time a day to give me a hug or cuddle with me on the couch.  Please keep doing this!
3.  Your love for reading - You love to read and are still in the top reading group in your class.  (You actually made the highest grade on the reading benchmark of any of the other kids in your class, which I wouldn't tell you now, but thought you may want to know one day;)).  I hope you keep this love for reading always.  Books provide endless knowledge and feeling.
4.  Your discipline - We have started a sticker chart for you to complete when you do your walking exercises, and you have been so good about staying on top of doing them.
5.  Your silliness - I adore your giggles.  I kept watching you during the movie today, because you thought the jokes were so funny!
6.  Your love for God - A parent has no greater joy then when their child trusts in the Lord.  You tell me that you have done that and know him as your Savior.  Your daddy and I consider it our greatest job to teach you more about Jesus and encourage and nourish your relationship with Him.
7.  YOU! - There is no one like you, Hunter.  I am so proud to be your mother...I can't tell you how many times I've watched you and literally felt my heart warming or a lump rising in my throat just because you are you.  I couldn't love you more, Boo.
Love,
Mommy

Lords and Ladies

Hunter turns 7 (SEVEN!) on Monday, so we celebrated today with a birthday party at Medieval Times.  Since he's turning 7, he got to invite 7 friends to come along:)  One of his friends was traveling for spring break, so Charlotte got to come along in his place.  The boys were so excited when we got there...

We were in the center section, cheering for the black and white knight!

Riley photo bombed us girls...

We had a little reservation snafu that caused a bit of a panic this afternoon.  They called at 2:10 asking if we were still planning to make the 2:15 show.  We were scheduled (or were supposed to be scheduled) for the 5:00 show.  I was not happy, but the operations manager was wonderful and eventually worked it out for us to still come at 5.  And to make up for my crying breakdown, she gave Hunter this awesome light up sword and all of the boys light up necklaces...

This picture is terrible, but that's the king and his daughter, the princess (Charlotte's favorite person there, of course)...

I don't remember this guy's title, but he had a falcon that flew around.  It was pretty cool...

Horses...

They don't have silverware at Medieval Times, because they didn't have it in the real medieval times, so you have to eat with your hands.  First they serve dragon tail soup in a bowl with a handle, so you can pick it up and slurp it in.  Then they bring out bread, followed by falcon (right after the falcon guy leaves)...
Aka chicken.  Hunter's friends that were seated beside me did not want to eat it because she called it falcon.  I assured them that it was just chicken, and that was enough for one of them to try it, but the other didn't eat a bite because he didn't want to "eat that bird".  Poor little guy.  It was really good!

They also bring out dragon's egg (the potato) and a rat's tail (the rib)...
It's a ton of food!

Hunter really enjoyed the food.  James said Char ate well, too.  I was pleasantly surprised that both of them enjoyed it.  Hunter told me that's the only soup he's ever had that he actually liked:)  I was glad to hear that because this mama LOVES soup, and he groans about it every.single.time. I make it.

Finally, the knights came out for the games...

Our knight...

The jousting was so exciting that I didn't get any photos of it.  We had a blast.  During the show, I heard Hunter's friend, Kevin say, "This is the best day of my life!  I'm going to remember this forever!"  I'm so glad they had fun!
It was POURING when the show got out, and I think the boys were almost as excited to run in the rain to our cars as they were to watch the show.

After we dropped everyone off, we came back to the house to open Hunter's gifts with Kate and her kiddos...

He loved all of his presents, and had such a great party.  I think it may have been his favorite birthday celebration ever!  Looking forward to Monday when we will celebrate him more!
